LVEF Quiz!
Cases: 1 - 13

Preamble :

The goal here is not to find the exact LVEF. Depending on your own goals, you can set different scales... for example:

  • <40% vs >40% (grossly decreased, roughly OK)

  • <30% vs 30-50% vs >50% (severely decreased, slightly decreased, normal)

  • % +/- 5 (eg: you estimated the LVEF at 40%, the one estimated in cardiology is 45% so you have the right answer!)

All of these studies were produced in the ED (mostly by our residents) and then corroborated by an echocardiography laboratory study within a reasonable timeframe. I therefore use their LVEF as the "answer."

Our studies aren't perfect, neither are cardiologists and life... but I tried to give you studies representing our real condition in the ER!

The goal is really to practice your eye and improve... be kind to yourself!

Ahhh and take a stab at it!! There's a box to write down your estimated LVEF... do it! Taking a stand will only help you learn!
