Radial Block - Key Points

  • The radial nerve divides into multiple branches when distal to the elbow. Therefore, it is suggested to perform the block proximal to the elbow.

  • To find the nerve easily, position your probe 4-5 cm proximal to the lateral epicondyle and assess the region by performing an anteroposterior glide.

  • Volume of anesthetic required to complete the block: 6-8 mL.

  • The goal is to apply the anesthetic so that it covers the nerve 66-75%. Performing a "donut" is not necessary and increases the risk of vascular or nerve punctures. Generally, as soon as you are in the right space, you can apply your local anesthetic.
